Title: I'm in Italy and would like to activate a WEB SDR
Post by: 1KT01 on 17 Dec 2025, 04:43
Hello everyone, I'm in Italy and would like to activate a WEB SDR.

I'm not an expert in software and PCs.

I have experience with antennas, radio reception, and DC hardware.

I'd like to place it high in the mountains with a solar panel and battery.

I therefore need plug-and-play equipment.

Our telephone network is 4G.

Try to explain to me what I should purchase and where, then how to assemble it.

It must have the 26-28 MHz AM FM LSB USB band, plus any other bands.

Thank you.

You should test if your phone ISP is using CGNAT or not, most do and such you can't run servers without some sort of tunneling.

Find a Linux expert to assist you, as without knowledge it will be hard to setup.

You have to build the server yourself, with e.g. HP EliteDesk with an Intel Gen6 or newer CPU that has a build in GPU so you can enable OpenCL to do wideband.

Receiver we use it the RX888MK2 that must have the thermal-mod in place, you have to check for this, else it will burn.

I use this CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7500 CPU @ 3.40GHz (any newer Intel should work fine with internal GPU)

All info is here: https://github.com/Steven9101/NovaSDR

But like I said before, you need an Linux Expert, and yes it must be Ubuntu 22.04 (any other Linux or version can give serious problems)

You also will need a very big battery, as it will probably consume >50W/h in total.

You can use smaller devices like the RSP1A, that can do about 8Mhz wide.

If this is too hard, better go OpenWebRX or get the KiwiWebsdr, as this stuff we run is NOT plug and play and required a lot of knowledge. The Kiwi is plug-and-play and uses little power.

Sure, but you have to setup it yourself.

If you run into problems, I will be more then happy to help solving it.
